Graham has visited East Riding Community Hospital to see the hospital’s progress over ten years after opening, and to see the hospital’s new diagnostic facilities, made possible by the Government’s Community Diagnostic Centre programme.
This was a particularly poignant visit for Graham who had fought to keep the community hospital in Beverley open as part of his CHANT (Community Hospitals Acting Together) campaign over a decade ago.
The new £1.4m diagnostic facility, which provides a state-of-the-art MRI/CT Scanner, has seen around 8,000 patients since opening last year and boasts an impressive attendance rate, with only around 3% of appointments missed.
The Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board have made every effort to ensure the facility, housed in a bespoke, British-made trailer in the car park, provides a first-class facility to patients, with the trailer featuring extensions to make the waiting room a more pleasant environment.
The facility is fully accessible, with a wheelchair lift available to patients and is staffed by highly trained operators, who are also trained in life support. The facility also has a role in training radiologists of the future from the Hull York Medical School.
Graham also had the opportunity to see the x-ray department of the hospital he played such a role in saving before it moved to its current Swinemoor Lane site.
Graham is a long-standing campaigner for better healthcare in Beverley and Holderness. In addition to his CHANT Campaign, he has campaigned for improved dentistry, especially in Withernsea; seen thirteen defibrillators installed through his CADEY (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire) campaign and pushed for more face-to-face GP appointments following the Pandemic.
Graham also chairs Holderness Healthcare Provision, a collaboration of GPs and health representatives from the area.
Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart said: “I was delighted to see East Riding Community Hospital doing so well, in its fabulous modern building.
“This hospital is moving heaven and earth to provide the best care possible, and seeing the new diagnostic facility shows just how the hospital is improving its offering to the people of Beverley and the East Riding more generally.
“I look forward to supporting them in continuing to provide first-rate care to all of us.”
