Graham has visited Swinemoor Primary, the Ofsted-rated Outstanding primary school on Burden Road to speak to their Meeting of Masterly Minds group.
The club is a developing initiative established by Deputy Head Jane Sharp, which gives pupils the opportunity to learn about topics that interest them before presenting their findings to their peers.
One of Ofsted’s major findings in its 2023 report was that it took a great deal of pride in its independent learning and is also well-known for its extra-curricular activities as part of its exceptional offering.
Graham was delighted to meet the students at the club to discuss how the group has been helping them to develop their academic and personal confidence.
Graham enjoyed answering questions from the group about politics and issues that concern them and signed students’ certificates.
During the visit, Graham also enjoyed a hot school dinner of fish, chips and peas, and chatted with dinner ladies in the servery.
As a former Chairman of the House of Commons Education Committee, Graham loves visiting schools across Beverley and Holderness and does what he can to support them – including celebrating successes such as inspirational Molescroft Primary head Michael Longcaster, who Graham recently had lunch with in Parliament, to encouraging pupils schemes, such as the Patrington Champions at Patrington Primary School.
Graham Stuart, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, commented, "We’re so lucky to have wonderful schools in Beverley and Holderness, and Swinemoor Primary is truly one of the best.
“Everything they do is about giving their pupils the best possible education – and it was a privilege to attend the Meeting of Masterly Minds group and meet the student members.
“My thanks go to Jane Sharp and the children – not just for having me but for making such a terrific group of young people happen! Thank you also to the school dinner ladies for such a delicious lunch.”
Jane Sharp, Deputy Head, said, “It was a real pleasure to welcome Graham once again to the school.
“We have forged a great relationship over the years, and it’s been wonderful to share with him the developments we have made in our offering of extra-curricular activities for pupils.”
